Temporary Staff FAQs

What paperwork do I need to complete before commencing an assignment through Red?

As a temporary member of staff it is essential that you are familiar with and have completed the following documents as appropriate: (click to see PDFs):

Please ensure that you download and complete the relevant forms according to which division you work for.

As a non-UK or EC national, what proof of eligibility to work do I need to bring in to your office?

How will I get paid?

Before commencing employment you will be given a timesheet to complete. This will detail the hours that you have worked each day and those hours are totalled giving us your weekly hours to be paid. Timesheets will only be accepted by Red if they are signed and dated by you and the specified hiring manager.

Timesheets must be received by fax or hand delivered by 10.00am on the following Monday. This is imperative to ensure that the hours are inputted onto the payroll system for timely pay the following week. It is your responsibility (not the client’s) to ensure that your timesheet has been received by Red, therefore we recommend that you call the office to confirm receipt.

What holidays will I be entitled to when working as a temp?

As a temporary worker, you are eligible to accrue up to 24 days holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays).  Your leave year begins on whichever date you commenced your existing assignment with Red. Under the Working Time Regulations 1998, none of this leave can be carried over into any subsequent leave year and so please ensure that you take all of your leave in the appropriate year.

Your leave will accrue directly in line with the time that you work and as a very general example, if you work standard full time hours you will accrue 2 days leave each month.  If you work less than full time hours, you will accrue less than this and less than 24 days in the year. If you want to find out how much holiday you have accrued, please contact Red’s Payroll Manager, Michele Treweek on 02920 414891.

If your assignment finishes for any reason, all unpaid accrued holiday will automatically be paid to you in your final wages.

To request holiday, please download the attached form, complete it and give it to your consultant at Red.  Please ensure that you give your consultant a minimum of 2 weeks notice for any holiday time that you wish to take.  This is very important as this is the minimum notice that we guarantee our clients.

How will I be taxed?

Before you start working for Red, we will require your P45 which your previous employer should have given you. If you don’t have a P45 from a past employer, please ask Red for a P46 or download one from the following link:

By having one or the other of these forms, Red will ensure that you are paid using the correct tax code for you.

If you want further advice or information about this, please speak to Michele on 02920 414891 or see: www.hmrc.gov.uk

What do I do if I am sick and can’t go into work?

On any occasion when you are going to be absent from work, it is imperative that you call the Red office BEFORE 8.30am of that day. We will subsequently advise the client of your absence and find them a replacement for that day if necessary.

What do I do if I am going to be late for work?

If you feel you are going to be late for work, please let us know so that we can advise the client as a matter of urgency.

How do I contact my consultant?

Who do I contact with payroll or holiday queries?
